Surprisingly, La Terrasse sets an unparalleled standard for brunch. Watching the chef casually chatting with the patrons and listening to their anecdotes dissolves La Terrasse's untouchable mystique. With reasonable prices for … la carte items ($6-$19), the sophisticated menu is just as dazzling as the gourmet buffet ($18.95 per person). While most upscale restaurants trade portions for elegance and presentation, La Terrasse is generous and balanced.

I like Costco better

Hidden between the two main streets -- Chestnut and Spruce at 45th -- lies the hardly monumental Sam's Place.
