In celebration of the Mural Arts Program’s 30th anniversary, the Philadelphia Academy of the Fine Arts welcomes a historical exhibition on mural arts in the city.
While an Oscar is the most coveted award in Hollywood, even the nominees who don’t win go home with what is called a “swag bag.” A Los Angeles marketing firm awards every nominee with a gift bag of goodies worth upwards of $45,000, which includes vacations to Hawaii and Mexico, VIP service at London Heathrow airport, condoms, tequila and personal training sessions (because even Hollywood’s A–listers binge eat after a highly publicized rejection). Though Penn doesn’t have its own Academy Awards, we decided to join in on the fun and create our own swag bag of goodies.

“Scrubs,” a medical comedy following young doctor John “JD” Dorian and fellow hospital workers, was a show that utilizes music to its greatest extent, using it to score everything from JD’s wacky fantasies to big romantic hook–ups to sad scenes tainted by death.
In “She Knows,” J. Cole tells the story of Kyle, a teenager playing hooky with his friend—continuing a trend of cinematic and narrative music videos for songs off his latest album, Born Sinner.
At first glance, a TV character whose main hobbies include naming celebrity couples and wearing bold prints doesn’t really give off a feminist vibe, but Mindy Kaling’s character of Dr. Mindy Lahiri is doing more for feminism than you think.
Mindy Kaling is a trailblazer—she’s the first South Asian woman to helm and star in her own sitcom, and she’s doing it somewhere around a dress size 8. But that’s not why Kaling’s character of Mindy Lahiri on “The Mindy Project” is so cool.
