“The world is controlled by shadowy elites and shape–shifting lizard people.” That’s the premise of Netflix’s new animated comedy series, Inside Job. Released on Oct. 22, 2021, it's already made the top 10 list on U.S. Netflix. Part 1 consists of ten impeccable, 30–minute episodes and Part 2 is expected to air sometime in 2022. The show is centered on a group of misfits who work at Cognito Inc., a clandestine agency whose function is to keep the truth hidden from the rest of the world. Both an exploration of workplace dynamics and a mockery of conspiracy theories that have proliferated in modern society in light of scientific and technological developments, Inside Job is the definition of satirical success.

If you’re not an avid anime watcher, you would most likely be dissatisfied with a 20–minute episode for a drama series. However, when taking into account that mainstream anime is almost entirely hand–drawn and consists of approximately 3000 frames/drawings per 20–minute episode, with each drawing taking more than an hour to create, one’s perspective may shift ever so slightly. The anime production process is intricate and those familiar with the art form have learned to judge animation quality and recognize the “trade–off between detailed, consistent designs and more fluid animation.”

Every fall, the TV awards season comes to a close with its biggest night: the Primetime Emmy Awards. Despite CBS airing this year’s Emmys, the network won nothing. In fact, the Big Four broadcast networks (CBS, NBC, ABC, and Fox), collectively only won one award: best variety sketch series for NBC’s Saturday Night Live. A decade ago, not a single streaming service was represented at the Emmys. Yet in 2021, the top awards were only awarded to Netflix, HBO (HBO Max), Apple TV+, and Disney+. One can only imagine what network executives, particularly CBS, were thinking during this telecast, in which they lost to every streaming service. In essence, CBS was airing its own funeral.

You know you're at a Jewish family gathering when overbearing relatives ask you about your weight, your grades, and your love life as if they’re asking about the weather. Bubbies bicker with zaydes, nosy aunts gossip in the corner, and you often find yourself wondering, “Wait ... how am I related to that guy again?” Oh, right. He’s your uncle’s wife’s mother’s cousin’s son.

Philadelphia is a city rich in history. Cobblestone streets are reminiscent of the horse and buggy carriages that once were the main form of transportation. Nowadays, paying for a horse and buggy ride is a novelty most often exploited by tourists and romantic comedy enthusiasts. Jewish representation in entertainment is a slippery slope. Religious rituals are often portrayed inaccurately, stereotypes are perpetuated, and values are misconstrued. Every once in a while, though, a series or movie comes along that highlights the triumphs and talents of the Jewish community. The upcoming Oscars shine the spotlight on a handful of Jewish icons, in the wake of several antisemitic 'jokes' that recently aired in popular shows.

As the salty smell of artificial butter swirls around, you lean back in your squeaky seat, and the lights begin to dim. When the whole world became remote, everything from schools, to businesses, to doctors adapted as best as they could. The last 12 months have been one great big technological and social experiment, as regular gatherings, appointments, and events have been forced to relocate to Zoom. The recent Golden Globe Awards were no exception, but they were certainly a standout—and for all the wrong reasons.

If The Bachelor is loved for one thing, it’s the drama onscreen. If The Bachelor is hated for one thing, it’s the drama offscreen. Most recently, it’s been the controversial casting of Matt James, contestant Rachael Kirkconnell’s past racist incidents, and host Chris Harrison’s comments on the entire matter. Unfortunately, none of this is all that surprising, as the fan–favorite reality show has never deserved praise for its diversity.
