If you’re struggling to stay awake in your Zoom lectures, looking for a way to spice up your beauty routine, or craving the warmth of a cup of joe, the solution is simple: break out the coffee. Whether you choose to enjoy it black, with two teaspoons of sugar, or as a double–shot latte, coffee is a go–to “pick me up” for students stumbling out of bed in the mornings and staying up late to study.

But did you know there’s more to coffee than the taste? Coffee contains antioxidants, which are said to protect cells from damage and disease, lessen inflammation (say goodbye to puffy under–eyes!), and prevent aging—amongst other things.

As for how you can harness these benefits in your own regimen, there are several DIY treatments that you can make at home—it’s up to you to decide if you want to give it a shot!

Eye Masks

Does a lack of sleep have you looking like a raccoon? Beauty experts recommend applying coffee grounds to the under–eye area for a quick fix. Take a few tablespoons of coffee powder and mix it with a few tablespoons of either honey, coconut oil, or avocado oil. Apply it to your dark circles, leave it on for fifteen minutes, and viola! No more under–eye bags!

Exfoliator

A coffee exfoliator can be used all over the body to restore a healthy glow to dull–looking skin. The best part? All you’ll need is coffee grounds and plain yogurt. By unclogging pores, improving circulation, and removing dead skin cells, a coffee–based scrub will leave your skin feeling rejuvenated.

Face Masks

The antioxidants found in coffee are also known to fight wrinkles, improve acne, and boost facial hydration by tightening skin and increasing collagen production. Depending on your skin goals, you can add a number of different ingredients to your mask. For example, lemon juice can be added to minimize acne, milk will help fight off inflammation, and honey is sure to add a moisturizing boost.

Coffee has numerous potential beauty applications beyond satisfying your caffeine craving. Start including coffee in your beauty routine; it will have you asking where have these hacks bean all my life?
