Queer Eye has become everyone’s latest Netflix obsession. The show follows five gay men, called the “Fab Five,” as they make–over mostly straight men. The men all have very distinct personalities and jobs on the show. Of course, this leads to the question: who is the best of the Fab Five? Here is a definitive ranking, from worst to best.
5. Bobby Berk—Design
Even with a whole season to develop his character, I don’t feel like we got to know Bobby. As the design expert, he objectively has the most responsibility of the five. So, it makes me wonder why we haven’t learned more about him. Sure, his interior designs look nice, but many of his decisions seem to be made without the men in mind and don’t seem to fit their personalities. He seems like a nice guy, but doesn’t have the bold personality of the other guys, or even the skills necessary to bring him out on top.
4. Karamo Brown—Culture
Okay, so I literally have no idea what this guy does. His job title says he’s the “culture” expert, but I’m not exactly sure what gave him the right to claim this. I mean, his satin bombers and smooth demeanor certainly say “cultured,” but his advice to the guys has been lacking. One of his shining moments was an advertisement for a random Peter Pan musical. But I must admit, his moment talking about police brutality with Cory was one of the most poignant moments of the season.
3. Tan France—Fashion
Tan has style for days. And that certainly shows when he transforms the guys’ wardrobes. We actually get to see Tan interact with many of the men, and maybe that’s why he seems to make genuine connections. He keeps his style tips simple, and actually does a good job trying to give each of the men unique options that they can replicate in their everyday lives.
2. Antoni Porowski—Food and Wine
Antoni, Antoni, Antoni. We all know why he was cast: he’s simply a beautiful, beautiful man. Sure, he probably isn’t the best chef in the world, but does it even matter? He rocks a Strokes band T–shirt, looks amazing cutting fruit, and has a contagious smile. What more can you ask for?
1. Jonathan Van Ness—Grooming
When I first started the season, I had a feeling Jonathan would get on my nerves. Oh boy was I wrong. Jonathan is definitely the star of the show. He never tones down his big personality, and does things like wearing male rompers in the heart of the South. His confidence is what we should all aspire to have and his flirting with the straightest of men warms my heart. Also, he’s objectively good at hair styling. He makes the guys look so much better than you thought they would have looked, and encourages them to take more time for themselves in their busy lives.
