Whether we like it or not, we live in a day in age where some people think that wearable technology is the greatest thing since...well...non–wearable technology. Whether it’s a Fitbit, Apple Watch, Nike Fuel Band, Google Glass, etc. the list goes on and on. It’s actually incredible how useful these things can be. They can help you track your physical activity to stay in shape, help you stay on top of your diet or even allow you to surf the web right on your wrist. However, Ringly, a relatively small and new company, is working on releasing a women’s bracelet that they call “Aries” that will change the game forever.
What is it and how does it work?
This bracelet does is it takes the “do not disturb” function on your phone to a whole new level. Ringly claims that they strongly believe that “technology can be more discreetly integrated into our lives.” Aries’s goal is to finally help you cure your phone addiction and maybe actually force yourself to pay attention in your Geology lecture.
The bracelet connects via Bluetooth to an app that you download on your phone. On this app, you control which apps you want to get notifications from. Then you set a vibration pattern and a color of light for each app. You can then put your phone away for a while and every time you get a notification from any of your desired apps, your bracelet will vibrate and glow accordingly.
You can also add certain contacts to your “VIP list.” This means that only notifications from these people will alert you to look at your phone. Also, for all you health freaks out there, you can also use the app to see how many steps you’ve taken.
While it sounds simple, it can be particularly useful. It can finally get you off of Facebook, Snapchat, iMessage and whatever else you’re doing on your phone, and you can finally finish your fucking work before having to pull another all–nighter in Van Pelt.
What makes Aries special is that it isn't just discrete, it's stylish. The bracelets all come with gold plating, and then you have the option of four semiprecious gems. This leads to the biggest disadvantage of the bracelet, which is the steep price of $195.
The Aries bracelets are not scheduled to start shipping until the summer of 2016, but preorders are now available.
