Pope Francis came to visit Philadelphia this past weekend, and he spoke at Independence Hall on Saturday afternoon. His visit brought a number of interesting things to Philly, including traffic issues. Here are the top 5 quotes from his inspiring talk, full of some lessons we can all hold on to during the rest of the year.
- “Why can’t Anglicans play chess? They don’t know the difference between a bishop and a queen.” Always good to start off with a joke. Good work, Francis.
- “Roses are red, violets are blue. I am the pope, and I would like Catholics to become more tolerant and loving to those around them.” Interesting choice – not sure if he totally understands that poem but I think he got his point across.
- “Why do birds fly in that V formation? I get that it helps them get where they’re going, I just wonder why they picked such a random letter.” Hey, he’s an old man, cut him some slack on this one.
- “I have prayed about this matter for very long and have reached the conclusion that Tom Brady probably did deflate those footballs.” It’s always great to see the Pope take a stance on the issues that matter.
- “Philadelphia is the most beautiful city I’ve ever been to. There are such wonderful places to eat, such friendly people and wonderful schools like Temple, Drexel, and Penn State.” First of all Holy Father, it is a sin to lie, so don’t lie about liking Philly. Secondly, we took off school for you and you still couldn’t get the name right?
