Biking (Fairmount, Wissahickon): Indego bike sharing program is now on campus! They charge $4 per 30 minutes, or you can get a membership with differing set and variable costs. PennCycle also has a $35 per month option along with a semester and yearlong choice. Payment plans are available upon request. Craigslist also can have some good cheap used bikes.
Bus (Valley Forge): SEPTA route 125 can take you all the way from 30th Street Station to the Visitor’s Center at Valley Forge, but be sure to check the bus goes all the way there. Because of stops, the journey is around 1 hour.
Regional Rail (Wissahickon): Head to the University City station by Franklin Field and take the Manayunk/Norristown line to Wissahickon. Or, take the Chestnut Hill East or West line to the last station. You’ll still have a bit of a walk to get into the park, but nothing too bad and Chestnut Hill is a great place to get lunch, dinner or ice cream in afterwards.
Zipcar (Pennypack, Hawk Mountain, Jim Thorpe, Appalachian Trail): Join through Penn to waive the application fee and only pay $15 in annual fees. There are three different plans at varying costs, but get a few friends to join you and it’ll become a lot more affordable.
