We all thought Brody brought out the crazy in Carrie Mathison, but since his death, Carrie’s crazy is on a whole new level.
In the opening scene of episode four, Carrie is up all night looking through endless footage. Redmond walks into the room and magically knows exactly who she’s looking for: the man Quinn picked out of the YouTube video of Sandy’s attack. Mr. Nice Guy lets her know that this man is Farhad Ghazi. Now that Crazypants has a name, the game is on.
Aayan returns to his girlfriend’s house to retrieve the bag of stolen medicine. The girlfriend enlightens him that her enraged father destroyed the bag. Aayan didn’t take the hint, but when the father returns, he gets the point.
Carrie runs and catches Saul before his departure from Islamabad. She fills him in on Farhad Ghazi and his role in Sandy’s death. Carrie wants Saul to connect her to his people in Islamabad. He tries to convince her to tell the White House what’s going on, but Carrie doesn’t do logic, so that’s not going to happen.
We finally get an explanation on the creepy guys following Carrie. Redmond, a.k.a. Mr. Nice Guy is having her tailed. After Carrie loses the trail (no shock there), Redmond instructs his men to find out where Carrie got the screenshot of Ghazi…We’re all pretty confused where exactly Redmond falls in all of this.
Turns out Quinn might actually love Carrie. After deciding that he is quitting the Agency, Quinn makes a 180 and immediately responds to Carrie’s plea to join the Islamabad team. Quinn shows up to Fara’s office where she clears a desk for him and starts briefing him on Aayan. Of course, Aayan strolls right in and asks for Carrie. Upon learning she isn’t there, he tries to flee. Fara moves to the top of the favorite coworker list when she manages to convince Aayan to stay until Carrie returns.
Carrie saves the day and promises Aayan the absurd amount of money he asks for, as well as transportation to London. Meanwhile, Quinn makes moves and taps Ghazi’s phone in his apartment. Shortly thereafter, Carrie and Quinn share an intimate moment over the attack they witnessed together. The scene is pretty weird…but together, they make one semi–normal person!
We also learn that Aayan’s professor, Professor Boyd, is married to the American ambassador Martha Boyd. Together they live a rocky life with a son named Toby and zero foundational truth in their marriage.
On another plotline, Saul meets with his ISI contact and accomplishes absolutely nothing. Fara and Max follow Aayan and see the man he is giving the bag of medicine to. *GASP* Haissam Haqqani, a.k.a. number four on the terrorist list, is alive and casually in the streets of Islamabad. Carrie connects the dots and realized that Sandy was killed to protect Haissam who was supposed to be killed in the wedding drone strike.
Aayan, nephew of the major terrorist Haissam, arrives with Fara at Carrie’s house in the middle of the night. Aayan is very upset to learn the London departure will take two to three days, when he thought he’d be leaving immediately. Carrie slowly but surely gets Aayan to break down and tell her who he’s afraid of, all that’s gone wrong in his life since the wedding strike.
Carrie might be deranged at this point, or this might just be the new her in Islamabad. Carrie comes onto Aayan—strong. The two have a creepy hookup which leaves us all feeling more unsettled than the knowledge that a major terrorist is still alive and well.
Things on the top of our minds post–episode four: can Carrie only hook up with people who are closely ties to terrorists??
