1. David had a wife—Yes, dearly departed, blatantly gay David had a wife. Hannah attends his memorial service and is shocked to find out he had a wife. Hannah deals with this new information the way you would expect her to, she is selfish and tactless—eventually asking David’s widow for a new publisher when she finds out all of David’s projects have been dropped.
2. Marnie visits Ray—As Hannah’s attention is focused on her own problems, Marnie is feeling rather neglected. Sick of brooding on her own, she pays a visit to Ray. It’s almost sweet at first—Ray calls Marnie out for, well, for being her—but still supports her. And then they have sex on the table because that’s how these things go. And then Marnie, in typical Marnie fashion, tells Ray, “Go fuck yourself. Like I’d advertise this,” when Ray suggests they keep their little rendezvous on the DL. It’s not like he’s trying to spare the feelings of their mutual friend Shoshanna or anything!
3. Hannah wears a gecko crop top—So maybe it’s more of a child’s shirt that turns into a crop top on Hannah but it leaves little to the imagination. Every time the scene cut to Hannah the only possible thought was “The crop top though . . .” and left you wondering if Hannah even owns a bra (she definitely just doesn’t).
4. Hannah kicks Caroline out—After an earlier scene where Hannah stresses the importance of siblings, declaring that that was all she ever wanted growing up (it’s okay if you don’t remember it that well—because crop top), she reaches her breaking point and kicks Caroline out. Hannah just found out that David’s office owns the rights to her book for three years, despite the fact that they won’t be publishing it. This shatters Hannah’s world, leaving her unable to consider anyone else’s struggles. Adam is furious to find Caroline gone when he returns home for the night and walks out on an uncommunicative Hannah.
5. Final thoughts—The show still isn’t “GIRLS” right now, it’s HANNAH. The amount of time we’ve been spending with Hannah is making it harder and harder to deal with her or find sympathy to her. Marnie gets her own small story line, but Shosh and Jessa are blips in the episode. Spending time away from all of the girls is creating a disjointed feeling around the show. Here’s hoping it’s meant to mirror Hannah’s life, and that when her life finally fully falls apart, it will be dragging all of the girls back into it.
