1. There’s a new counselor in town…Rosewood High has gotten a new guidance counselor named Jesse. His first order of business was to start a support group for some of the troubled students, including Mike and Mona. The pair bonds over their laundry list of issues and make out in public. Clearly, Mike has a thing for girls with issues—that also happen to be his older sister’s age. Why the foursome was not included in the support group or why they have never been sent to see a school guidance counselor makes about as much sense as Hanna’s newfound (and totally random) obsession with mystery novels.
2. Emily is going insane…Speaking of issues, Emily has loads, and she almost stabs her dad with scissors. In order to calm her mind, her dad suggests she spend some extra time with Mr. Fitz. Great idea!3. Be afraid of the dentist…Hanna goes to the dentist with the hopes of stealing some documents, a tip she got from the detective we haven’t seen since the summer. A gasses her, steals the files and puts a tiny note in her gums. Every fear of the dentist office any viewer has ever had is confirmed in this scene.
4. A slice of poison berry pie and a Board Shorts Ale…The most important part of this episode was Spencer trying to decode pages of Ali’s diary. She ends up following a lead to the Hart and Huntsman bar, near Hollis College, where Ali used to meet up with an older guy who would read her stories and kiss her. He always ordered a slice of poison berry pie and a beer. When Spencer shows up, she runs into Ezra who is eating a slice of the same pie; he dashes out before his bottle of Board Shorts Ale can arrive. The scene of Ezra and Ali hooking up is even grosser than his go-to pub order.
5. What season is it anyway? The usually awesome outfits on this show have recently made absolutely no sense! Just a few weeks ago in PLL time, Spencer’s early decision application to Penn was rejected, but regular decision has not been released (not that these girls seem to have applied anywhere.) So, we should be between the months of December and March. In Pennsylvania! How are all the characters not freezing in dresses and jean jackets? Please get it together, PLL costume designer.
