There are many reasons to throw shade at Kanye West. But, if there’s one reason to love Yeezy (annoyingly self-confident persona aside), it’s his tongue-twisting beat–dropping in “Gold Digger”. If his “get down, girl — go ‘head girl, get down” doesn’t get your head bopping, few things in life ever will. Mashed up with Philadelphia hiphop duo, Chiddy Bang’s “Ray Charles”, Kanye’s rap pumping voice becomes even more compelling with a soulful piano tune in the background. At the beginning, Jamie Foxx’s soaring vocals are followed by a choir’s chant in unison, “Raaaaay Charles.” Listen carefully to catch the hint of Jennifer Lopez’s “I’m still Jenny from the block,” which seems completely unrelated to the song, but as it is with most great mashups, it works.
