The fast–paced trailer for the action movie “Homefront,” based on a novel by Chuck Logan and due in theaters Nov. 27, was released this week, and it looks to be a treat for fans of the undercover–cop–fights–meth–dealers genre.
What We Love: The cast. You can never go wrong with Jason Statham as the headliner for your action movie, ever. The trailer also highlights the rest of the star–studded cast, including Winona Ryder, Kate Bosworth and best of all, James Franco. Throughout the trailer, it’s hard to take your eyes off of Franco, who channels pure insanity and menace as the film’s villain. The entire trailer has a brooding, menacing feeling to it, building the suspense before delivering the payoff: a frenzy of action shots, centered on Statham with a very large rifle.
What We Don’t: Despite the fact that the film is based on a novel, the premise feels a little tired. In addition, although Jason Statham carries almost every film he appears in, often in the absence of a good script, a very large portion of his movies are too similar to make much of an impression. This film may raise our hopes only to devolve into another run of the mill action flick.
