Song: Dirty Laundry by Kelly Rowland
While it’s set to be released June 18, two singles from Kelly Rowland’s new album Talk a Good Game have already dropped. The first, “Kisses Down Low,” peaked at #72, but “Dirty Laundry” is getting a lot more buzz––and for good reason. This raw ballad does what its title says and confronts the aforementioned rivalry with her more successful Destiny’s sister. “I was happy she was killing it,” she sings. “Bittersweet / she was up / I was down / No lie, I feel good for her / but what do I do now?”
The song, which Rowland recently teared up singing onstage, also deals with domestic abuse in a past relationship. Opening up through these powerful lyrics, in combination with coming clean about her Beyoncé jealousy, create a “confessional” song worthy of the attention it’s getting.
