1. Hangover Special at Bui’s Lunch Truck 38th and Spruce Streets 856-630-7269
It’s called a hangover special ($5) for a reason: greasy, sustaining and full of flavor, this egg sandwich is sure to soothe you as your friends recount all the regrettable things you did last night. It comes with eggs, cheese, ham, bacon and sausage on a warm, soft roll, but be sure to ask for some extra Bui’s sauce. You can call (or text) ahead so your sandwich is ready when you get there, a major plus.
2. Breakfast Burrito at Honest Tom’s 261 S. 44th Street 215-620-1851
You’re starving. It’s 11am, and you’re looking to chill all day watching March Madness. Before you sink into the black hole that is your couch, walk over to Honest Tom’s and order a breakfast burrito ($7), a colossal, doughy tortilla loaded with eggs, cheese, home fries, black beans, salsa, guacamole and bacon. It’ll fill you up for the day, and because the ingredients are spread throughout the burrito every bite gives you a little bit of everything. Not so ravenous? Try the smaller breakfast tacos ($6).
3. Bacon, Egg and Cheese at Lyn’s 36th and Spruce Streets
Lyn’s food truck knows eggs. The classic bacon, egg and cheese ($3) is phenomenal; crispy, slightly oily bacon, melted cheese and a fluffy egg nestled in a lightly buttered and toasted long roll (or in a wrap) is certainly my idea of happiness in a sandwich.
4. Lox and Onion Omelette at Sabrina’s Cafe 227 N. 34th Street 215-222-1022
It might not be as photogenic as the stuffed challah French toast ($9.99), but the lox and onion omelette ($8.99) at Sabrina’s deserves just as much attention. The thick pieces of lox are fresh and flavorful, and the dish comes with a side of crispy–on–the–outside, smooth–on–the–inside fried potatoes. It’s one of the more nutritious options on the menu but is substantial enough not to leave you hungry. If you’re feeling extra healthy, you can ask for egg whites for a $1 extra.
