Following the first mind–blowing trailer released online in July, a two and a half minute theatrical trailer for The Wachowskis’ ("The Matrix" series) upcoming epic drama "Cloud Atlas" has hit the web. It’s shorter but equally confusing, and that’s probably on purpose. While the trailer doesn’t signify whether this film, based on a 2004 novel of the same name, will be a discombobulated mess or brilliant Oscar-winning psychological masterpiece, its trailer is intriguing, to say the least.
What we love: An all–star cast headed by Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, Hugh Grant and Susan Sarandon playing multiple characters in multiple storylines over multiple generations. Running time is pushing three hours, which is often an indicator that a film will be amazing. Total potential to be the next "Inception."
What we don’t: Regardless of arresting visuals and the guarantee of a rewarding "Memento"–esque pay–attention–or–else cinematic experience, we still aren’t sure what the story is all about. And though encouraging, the Halle Berry car crash and Tom Hanks voiceovers (“Fear. Belief. Love.”) don’t leave us positive that "Cloud Atlas" is Oscar bait.
In Theatres October 26.
