Red-haired siren Florence Welch and her band hit Philly at the tail-end of their tour for their second studio release, “Ceremonials.” Welch has said that she plans to take a twelve month break from music before beginning work on the follow-up to “Ceremonials,” so buy tickets now if you want to see The Machine in the next year.

Thursday 9/20 Glen Hansard, Union Transfer, $30
Best known from the indie flick “Once” and its broadway musical spin-off, the Irish-born Hansard released his first solo album, “Rhythm and Repose,” in June. You might recognize one of his songs, “Come Away to the Water” from the “Hunger Games” soundtrack (Maroon 5 covered it for the movie).

Saturday 9/22 Metric, Tower Theatre, $28
The making of Metric’s fifth album, “Synthetica,” was accompanied by the making of a documentary about the band, and although the album was released in June, the documentary is still being rolled out to the public in pieces on Metric’s YouTube channel. In the words of lead singer Emily Haines, “Synthetica” is “about forcing yourself to confront what you see in the mirror when you finally stand still long enough to catch a reflection.”

Sunday 9/23 Catnaps, The Fire, $8
Catnaps (formerly known as When I was 12) are a local outfit who play, in their own words, “nightmare pop.” It’s well-crafted, fuzzy twee with lyrics both sweet and sharp, and if you appreciate indie pop, it’s pretty much impossible not to fall in love with it. Their latest EP, “Boys Drool,” came out in February 2011, but according to the group’s Facebook page, they’re hard at work on a new EP.
