The brainchild of Oakland producer David Reep, Elephant & Castle is the latest ambient act to turn what are basically the elements of background noise into art. Since we can think of few prettier sounds to fall asleep to, we’ll forgive him for releasing a music video that looks like a Windows screensaver.
Tech N9ne – Klusterfuk EP
Before deciding that Tech N9ne’s style of hip hop is just a little too alternative for your tastes, take a moment to appreciate the sheer speed of his rhymes, reminiscent of Bone Thugs-n-Harmony. This EP gives us just enough Tech N9ne to prepare for the album that will likely follow in irresistibly bizarre glory.
The Ting Tings – Sounds from Nowheresville
It’s hard to imagine that The Ting Tings’ seemingly ubiquitous debut singles — “Shut Up and Let Me Go,” of iPod commercial fame, and “That’s Not My Name” — dropped four years ago. Now the English dance-punk duo is back with more jams that will probably get stuck in your head for at least three hours at a time.
Tiger! Tiger! – Cut Them Where They Bleed
Who doesn’t love a good garage rock band fronted by women? The Atlanta-based Tiger! Tiger! makes essentially the perfect music for (at least imagining yourself) driving around in a Cadillac with a who-gives-a-shit sneer. They’re riding an angry train, and it seems plenty worth hopping on.
