It’s official: Lady Gaga has run out of ideas.
How else could you explain her theft of a classic rock performance’s concept, as witnessed by millions on Sunday night’s telecast of the Grammys?
Gaga arrived on the red carpet in an egg–like pod, not emerging from it until the beginning of her performance of “Born This Way.”
Breaking out of an egg while singing a song about birth would appear inventive and witty, had Spinal Tap not had the same idea decades ago in their riff on evolution, “Rock ‘n’ Roll Creation.”
In This is Spinal Tap, the washed–up, titular 80s metal band take turns emerging from pods as they open their primal song about the big bang, leaving the bassist behind when his pod refuses to open and continuing in stride.
To her credit, it appears that Gaga learned from her source material and opted to brave the pod alone so that none of her band would get stuck inside.
Because a roadie trying to break open a pod with a flamethrower just wouldn’t have looked good onstage at the Grammys…
