Joke Issue:
While we’re still years away from any comprehensive child labor legislation, one little girl is toiling away, and her hard work is paying off. Let us introduce you to the adorable Shirley Temple, whose smile is so intoxicating that you’ll forget that Prohibition was repealed last year. After a couple of fleeting roles in forgettable movies, Temple has officially made her breakthrough in the recent film Stand Up and Cheer!, which is intended to increase America’s optimism in these troubling times. In the movie, she sings “Baby, Take a Bow.” Temple steals the show, with all the right big girl affectations in the optimistically bright duet.
If you’re in the midst of a depression, the best you could do to help yourself is to check out this gloriously optimistic track. In short, her breathtaking performance in “Baby, Take a Bow” is more nourishing than most Americans’ diets.
