TEXAS
The Salt Lick Bar–B–Que Sauce
The king of barbeque doesn’t disappoint! Made famous for brisket and cowboy boots, Texas barbeque sauce packs a powerful punch. Typically spicy, these sauces are not for the faint of heart. Some are tomato–based but The Salt Lick, one of the most famous BBQ joints to hit Texas, uses a tangy mustard and Worcestershire base instead. For those not looking for anything too sweet in their sauce, Texas–style is the way to go. Your taste buds will thank you.
KANSAS CITY
Gates Bar–B–Q Sauce
Sugar and spice and everything nice… Kansas City–style BBQ sauces tend to be sweeter since some contain molasses. One of the most famous, Gates Bar–B–Q sauce, does not. This tomato–based sauce has a nice vinegar kick and is perfect for those ribs you just haven’t gotten around to grilling. You don’t even have to leave your couch to get your BBQ–loving fingers on this one. Order online… they ship!
THE CAROLINAS
Scott’s BBQ Sauce
Carolina’s vinegar-based sauces are normally thin in body and pungent in flavor, with red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper thrown in for a little heat. Enjoy it straight out of the bottle (shots anyone?) or as a marinade. It pairs well with any style of pulled pork or ribs. Scott’s BBQ Sauce was made famous for its classic Carolina flavor and you can get it online as well!
MEMPHIS
Corky’s BBQ Sauce
A hybrid sauce, this tomato and vinegar combo has the best of every world. Memphis and Kansas City styles have a bitter rivalry that stands the test of barbeque time. Memphis–style features a thin sauce that is sometimes accented with brown sugar or mustard. It’s definitely not as spicy as Texas-style but is a nice mix of Kansas City and Carolina. Most Memphis–style barbeques use dry rubs for their ribs, but this sauce serves as a nice accompaniment.
