Let’s be frank for a second. “That’s How I Beat Shaq” by Aaron Carter is by far the greatest song to ever come out of the entire Carter family (and yes, that includes you, Leslie).
In this epic minstrel’s tale, a young Aaron finds himself challenged to a game of one-on-one by Shaquille O’Neal. The game is full of dramatic moments, but in the end, Carter finds himself victorious. However, the tables are turned once again when Aaron is woken up by his mother, and we realize it was all a dream. Or was it?
The story-telling style lends itself perfectly to a music video. The musical chops combined with the incredible acting skills make this video one of the greatest I’ve ever seen. Serious recommendation. If you’ve got time to read this, you’ve got time to (re)watch it.
This song occupies a very special place in my heart. This inspirational tale of David over Goliath should motivate each and every one of us to reach for the stars so that we too may one day tell our grandchildren, “that’s how I beat Shaq.”
