Belgian indie rock vet Dieter Sermeus has seen it all, from the heyday of punk to the early 90s lo-fi haze. His newest group’s most recent release, Everybody Knows It’s Gonna Happen Only Not Tonight, is the opposite of any past lo-fi he may have been involved in. Everybody Knows It’s Gonna Happen is a disarmingly tidy record — it sounds like it was recorded in a vacuum.
It’s a bit unsettling to hear of foreigners trading away their native tongue for more marketable English, but The Go Find completely mask their overseas status. Nothing is lost in translation, especially not the remarkably clean drum sound that holds together every track on the album. This common base contributes to the sense that tracks seem to blend together, but for some reason this isn’t a bad thing. Most likely, it’s acceptable because of the notable variance of instruments.
The Go Find have a sound that can appeal to even the most indie-phobic — clean and intricate melodies can be a universal language. This group has been labeled indie rock by virtue of their members’ resumes, but, in reality, this album isn’t fit for a narrow niche — it’s something that anyone can like, or maybe even love.
