Hot Chip, “Take it In”
Synths? Check. British accents? Check. Neo-disco-ish, meditative grooves? Check. Sounds like another Hot Chip single. The group, as it is wont to do, ventures into territories that are not so much uncharted as unclassified. As with most of the band’s work, “Take It In” resides somewhere between the land of dance and the land of introspection. This is a pretty happy place, where the synths channel James Bond and the vocals channel Chris Martin (along with all of his earnestness). As if you needed more variety, the chorus puts a spin on what sounds like an uplifting '90s ballad with the band’s special brand of subtle bittersweetness — all of which is mixed in a studio with great care. It’s hard to figure out the best time and place to take in “Take It In,” but you’ll soon realize that its pep does well in most environments.
