When I wake up in the morning, I worry about what to wear. I’m not worried about how my outfit will look; instead I’m worried about how it will hold up under the pounds of wet clay sure to come flying at me during the day. That’s right: wet, gooey clay.
My clay wheel throwing class is tucked away in the beautiful Addams Fine Arts building. Most unique about the ceramic studio — a fact many do not know — is its third floor home. Due to the weight of the kilns, studios are usually in basements, making the studio a rarity.
I may be an Anthropology major used to dealing with skulls and ancient artifacts, but this elective has become my escape from four other stressful classes. It lets me get down and dirty, elbow deep in mud, and create useful, dishwasher-safe items for my off-campus kitchen at the same time.
