Sandwiched between two separate construction sites, Reward, a recent newcomer to the shopping scene, has already established itself as a popular destination. The white and black walls provide a perfect backdrop to feature the long rows of clothing.
Guys, no need to feel left out of all the fashion fun. While many Old City boutiques exclusively feature women’s attire and accessories, Reward pays equal attention to both sexes. The majority of the men’s side of the store features hipster styles (think tapered jeans). Softer than your favorite sweatshirt, the flannel shirts will immediately become part of your sartorial repertoire. Warning: do not lend these soft button-downs to anyone if you ever intend on wearing the shirt again.
The women’s side of the store has a more high fashion vibe. Fashionistas and Gossip Girl fanatics alike can snag vintage hair bows, but supplies of these unique accessories are limited. Amidst the collection of vintage accessories, dresses and jewelry, Reward also displays of-the-moment shoes and handbags. Boys, look for canvas sneakers, and girls, keep your eyes open for leather oxfords and tasseled saddle shoes.
Shari Roulin’s store combines the old and the new; racks of clothing combine the latest looks from hard-to-find designers with vintage looks from your grandma’s past. Roulin juxtaposes colorful and floral vintage fashions (which top out around $100) with more subdued modern offerings (which can cost you several hundred dollars). Black silk harem pants, sequined leggings and charcoal gray dresses trimmed with zippers line the new racks, and bursts of colors from the slouchier vintage looks catch the eye. Ksubi jeans, Opening Ceremony dresses, tailored shirts and sweaters add to the unique collection.
Next time you feel accolades are in order, hail a cab down to 2nd Street. After all, we always need an excuse to “reward” ourselves.
