Since papers, interviews and purchasing our own toilet paper can make us feel a little old, what better time than early spring to feel like a kid again? We’ve made your old playground favorites Penn-appropriate, so get outside: it’s time for recess.
Red Rover Who: Every member of your Penn sub-cultural group of choice. And then some. Where: Hill Field How: The participants are divided into two teams. Each team holds hands in a straight line, “I’d like to buy the world a Coke”-style. One team mercilessly singles out their vote for weakest link of the other team, shouting, “Red Rover, Red Rover, send [insert name here] over!” The victim then must attempt to break the other team’s hand-holding line by running through the two wimpiest-looking opponents. If they succeed, they can pick someone of the opposing team to bring back to their side. If they can’t cut it, they join the opposing team’s line. Whichever side absorbs the entire other team wins.
Four Square Who: You and the last three people who wrote on your wall. Where: Perelman Quad; use chalk to draw the squares. How: It can be as simple as bouncing a playground ball between the squares, or it can be as complicated as allowing the ball holder to shout various orders that sound straight out of Candy Land (e.g. “Lemon Drop!”). Try to avoid pelting innocent diners outside of Houston.
Hide-and-Seek Who: Your freshman hall. Where: All of campus. How: The seeker starts counting at the Button. The hiders must hide directly on, behind, or near a statue of an esteemed Penn investor (Ben Franklin’s bench or Dr. Pepper, for example). You’re only out if you’re tagged, so climb high, and race back to the Button before the seeker can catch you.
