From public official on the UA to public figure on campus, engineering senior Emerson Barth embodies what it means to be “Penn-fabulous.”
Street: Is this your first time in an on-campus publication? Emerson Barth: Yep, unless you count being culturally elite.
Street: When you’re not studying in engineering, you can be found... EB: At Pottruck… in the locker room.
Street: Tell us your most outrageous story from abroad. EB: Model night at our favorite club in Hong Kong: Naomi Campbell dancing on stage next to Grandmaster Flash and Jackie Chan hiding around the corner.
Street: Most underrated thing about Penn? Overrated? EB: Underrated: Dzine2Show. Overrated: Woody’s.
Street: What was your last purchase? EB: Several gin-and-tonics too many.
Street: You’re walking into a room full of friends and people you haven’t met. What is playing in the background? EB: ABBA. I’m dancing — a lot. I’ve spilled my drink on someone I don’t know and I’m already making friends.
Street: What’s one of your guilty pleasures? EB: Katy Perry, “Hot and Cold.”
Street: Who is the coolest person you have ever met? EB: It’s a toss up: Mary-Kate Olsen (she may not have actually said anything, but she did give me a cigarette) or Hillary Levine.
Street: There are two kinds of people at Penn... EB: Boys in the closet and boys that are out. I guess there are girls here too?
Street: What goes in your Gia salad? EB: As few calories as possible.
Street: Favorite hang-outs? EB: Late nights at Pure, drag show at Bob 'n' Barb’s and Silk City brunch.
Street: Favorite article of clothing in your wardrobe? EB: My animal print tank-tops.
Street: Who is your alter-ego? EB: A gaudy mess named Birds of Paradise. Think big hair, silver lipstick and red stilettos. Lots of glitter.
Street: In five years, where do you see yourself? EB: See previous question.
