College, man, it's the best time of your life. Well, this week, college, you're having the best time of your life. Even The New York Times thinks so; it went so far as to put out its college issue this week. Here in West Philly, the college-frat-beer-dirty-debauchery mode was in full swing. The weekend was highlighted in all its college splendor as frat boys joined forces in a tailgating fiesta of beer and barbecue. Freshmen "TheHos" and friends stormed the bookstore to bursar Penn gear for the event (see: "In Decent Exposure").

But things didn't stop there. Theme parties (Shipwrecked, Studio 54) drew costumed, beer-soaked crowds to Spruce and Locust on Saturday night. And did we forget to mention Penn's frattiest sorority, AXO, even threw a date auction at Blarney this week? Guess they too got the college memo.

Back to crowds on Spruce Street on Saturday night. Admittedly, this isn't particularly collegiate, but it is too newsworthy to exclude. According to Penn Security, large groups of teenagers were congregating in the 40th Street area and causing some trouble. We were savvy enough to get the real scoop from an officer, who told us "groups of neighborhood teens are going on MySpace and planning to meet up in the area, and it's making students uncomfortable." Oh, don't be scared. It was only a few years ago that you were pre-frosh looking for some excitement. albeit probably not in good ol' University City.
