I was eight when I had my first root beer float. Granted, that was a little late in life, however things move slower in England. And it was magical. All that foamy goodness, complemented nicely by a vanilla aroma. Divine. Ten years later, there came an idea that would revolutionize the world of this American classic: take out the root, but keep the beer.
To spice things up a little bit, I tried Lindemans Framboise Lambic (raspberry-flavored beer) and chocolate ice cream instead of the traditional root beer and vanilla ice cream combo. Now I know what you must be thinking: a beer float? Blasphemy. However, you are sorely mistaken.
The deliciously crimson berry-flavored beer was a delight to the senses when combined with the richly smooth ice cream. The foam mounted, slowly, but surely. I reached for my spoon and dug in, awaiting an explosion of reciprocating
flavors. I was not disappointed, to say the least.
Raspbeery float, anyone?
