You need not scour the world in search of magical herbs or cure-all tinctures. In fact, to find the ingredients for a warm winter remedy you need look no further than your backyard (or Fresh Grocer) for some ginger.

Ginger has been used for centuries in aromatherapy and the culinary arts, particularly in India and China (where it is said to have Yang energy). Known to improve circulation, boost the immune system, ease nausea and relieve cold and flu symptoms, it was once anonymously noted that sinking your teeth into a fresh piece of ginger root allows you to feel the sun's fire. Helios' rays may be just what you need to stay warm this winter, so boil some water and make your own ginger tea.

Ginger Tea Recipe

4 cups of water

2-inch fresh ginger piece

Lemon slice and honey (optional)

Peel, slice and grate the ginger root. Bring the water to a boil and add the slices of ginger. Reduce the heat, cover and let simmer for 15-20 minutes. Strain the liquid and add honey and lemon to taste. Experiment with additional ingredients (lemongrass, cardamom, orange peel, etc.) as desired.
