Gojjo 4540 Baltimore Avenue (215) 386-1444

Nestled not far from campus is a neighborhood restaurant teeming with the sights and sounds of Africa.

An Ethiopian bar and restaurant on the 4500 block of Baltimore, Gojjo is a bit of a walk, but you'll have no problem finding it among a strip of West African food stores and Caribbean diners. Gojjo features a generously stocked bar area and plenty of seating on the first and second floors.

The fare is standard Ethiopian, a mix of spicy lamb, chicken, beef and lentil dishes, all served with mounds of injera - a soft, almost spongy flatbread made daily on the premises.

The combination platter is a good choice for two (or even three), offering a sampling of typical Ethiopian meat and vegetable dishes. The vibrant colors of the meal were almost as enticing as the food itself. Presentation is paramount in Ethiopian cuisine, and the meal was a sampling for the eyes as well as the stomach. Gojjo also features a wide selection of tropical juices, ranging from mango to pineapple.

The food at Gojjo isn't much different from the various other Ethiopian restaurants more familiar to Penn students, such as Fatou & Fama and Dahlak. But for those who want to venture outside the confines of University City, Gojjo is an exciting change of pace.
