More than its ego, senior English major Kelly Landers is the library's id. We attempted to learn the truth about this fashionista's symbiotic relationship with Van Pelt.
Street: So you spend a lot of time at Van Pelt.
Kelly Landers: It's been noticed by quite a few. I live on 42nd Street, so it's definitely not an easy walk.
Street: Does the staff recognize you?
KL: I've gotten to know the late-night workers. I've brought Red Bull to the woman who is always at the door. She's so sweet to me because she knows me rather well. She always checks out what I'm wearing. She says I'm her form of entertainment.
Street: When are you there the most?
KL: For the couple of weeks leading up to finals, I'll be there all day. Except sometimes I'll make one break for a 7-11 run when I'll load up on energy bars, Red Bull and Airborne.
Street: What is the longest amount of time you've stayed awake there?
KL: In terms of consecutive hours, I would say I've gotten no sleep over about three days... with the exception of taking a shower or getting food to keep my energy up.
Street: That sounds ridiculous.
LK: Well, it does make you go a little crazy at times, especially if there is nobody else there except for two other regulars and you've been sitting there for five, six hours looking at the white walls.
Street: But do you love it?
KL: You can only love it so much. After I graduate, I graduate from Van Pelt as well, and I walk away.
