Jamila Willis: "It's pronounced De-sign!"
This over-involved senior Communications & Econ major is a designer, a Friar and a West Philly tutor. But most of all, she's a fashionista.
Street: Tell us about DZINE2-SHOW. What's your role in the group?
Jamila Willis: DZINE2SHOW is the fashion business organization on campus. The point of the group is to provide resources for those students interested in any aspect of the fashion industry, from design to retailing, production or even the finance side. I'm a student designer, on the production committee for the show and I'm on the executive board.
Street: We just interviewed Daniel V. from Project Runway. Are you a fan of the show? Who do you think should have won?
JW: I do like the show. I didn't watch it regularly, but I'm glad that Chloe won. She's adorable.
Street: Fashion icon?
JW: Hmm ... it would have to be a mixture between Diana Ross and Audrey Hepburn and my mom, even though that's kind of contradictory.
Street: Describe your style.
JW: Chic.
Street: Who's your favorite young Hollywood fashionista?
JW: I actually really like Mischa Barton.
Street: What's your dream job?
JW: I would love to have the job of Elizabeth Pierce. She's a corporate lawyer who specializes in luxury goods, so she advises up-and-coming designers and helps them with their contracts and stuff. I really like the business side of fashion.
Street: Fashion pet peeve (like wearing brown and black together, or UGGs)?
JW: I'm not a huge fan of brown and black together, especially dark browns and black. But other than that, I'm pretty much an 'anything goes' kind of girl when it comes to fashion.
