For those of you who are oh so sick of the Gap, with its false promises of Sarah Jessica looking ever so glamorous plastered to a window, only to find that they don't even sell that stuff on the inside, venture out and find Petulia's Folly. This "contemporary lifestyle" boutique carries many a fine label, including Ulla Johnson, Notify and Rebecca Taylor. Right now, holiday pieces by James Coviello are selling like hotcakes, according to the super friendly store manager.
Located in the heart of Center City, when you stumble upon its large African doors, you feel as though you've found a real diamond in the rough. Folly carries some first-rate items for the home, including candles, linens, pottery and select furniture, originating from as far away as Morocco and Uzbekistan. Its young vibe, diverse product range, lush decor and overall great taste make it some-what Anthropologyesque, though perhaps ever so slightly more original. The crowd is mostly young women -- 20s to 40s -- since Folly only carries women's apparel, though the house-wear attracts a certain kind of man as well. In sum, Petulia's Folly is a great space with a lot going on, and you should check it out at least once. Oh and don't forget Daddy's credit card, because, after all, this is not the Gap.
