Cheap beer is key:

Locust Bar

235 S. 10th St.

(215) 627-8550

Cheap beer, cheap food, cheap atmosphere. But that doesn't matter, because there's cheap beer. And cheap food.

Beer and Pac-man:

McGlinchey's Bar and Grill

259 S. 15th St.

(215) 735-1259

Some of the cheapest pints in the city, a juke box with an amazing selection and the added bonus of a Ms. Pac-Man table. Just don't expect so much from the food.

Musical bottles:

The Khyber

56 S. 2nd St.

(215) 238-5888 There's really nothing better than a night of good live music and good booze. Catch up-and-coming acts over your choice of over 100 domestic and local brews.

Neighborhood dive:

Doobies

2201 Lombard St.

(215) 546-0316 It's a pitcher and a pack of cigs with friends kind of place. Mostly a University of the Arts crowd where the bartender will drink with you.

Selection is priority:

Eulogy Belgian Tavern

136 Chestnut St.

(215) 413-1918

A great selection offered on tap, plus over 185 international bottles offered daily. The Belgian selection, obviously, is especially fabulous.

Sports bar:

Drinker's Tavern

124 Market Street

(215) 351-0142

$2 Pabst and Yuengling beer draws the 20-somethings into this old fashioned, tavern-like sports bar. Among the many other drink specials, $30 buys the entire bar a round of shots. There are pool tables and darts downstairs.
