Do not be fooled by the unglamorous facade of this Delaware Avenue dance party mecca. On the inside, the club's decor is as flashy as the clubbers who go there. Chrome's popularity may be due to its size. If you ever get tired of one room, you can just move on over to the next; there are four huge rooms in all, along with three dance floors and an outdoor deck that can hold 2,000 people.
Chrome regularly features an assortment of popular Philly DJs. For those with fastidious musical tastes, check in advance and go on the night that best quenches your particular musical thirst. On Fusion Fridays, trance music takes over. Meanwhile, undergrads have been known to flock to College Night Saturdays, which feature rap and hip hop music. If you're still hungry for more, visit Chrome on Sunday nights for the weekly Power 99FM dance party.
When you're ready for a drink, make your way over to the gazebo-style bar area. Here is where you really see your cover charge dollars at work. Flanked by hammocks and swings, the wooden bar is a gaudy attempt to recreate a European ambience. Though it doesn't quite scream French flair, the bar is colorful, crowded and boasts scantily clad baristas. Scantily clad is, in fact, the club's apparent theme. In the warmer months, the outside pool fills with partiers who want to refresh.
Though the cover may seem steep some nights -- making its way up to $15-$20 after 11 p.m. -- the synthesis of pumping music and interesting atmosphere helps to make Chrome the optimal refuge for those suffering from dance fever.
