Vegas -- home to Sinatra, the Bellagio and an inordinate number of questionably cheap Prime Rib Specials. Who would have thought that a guy could find such charm and (ahem) adventure right here in the center of the eastern corridor? Granted, the Las Vegas Lounge at 704 Chestnut lacks the slot machines, the blackjack tables and the overwhelming population of senior citizens that have come to characterize Sin City. But don't be discouraged -- this joint packs a punch during happy hour that's likely to impress even ol' Blue Eyes himself.
A word of caution: don't expect class at the Las Vegas Lounge. The red and black leather couches, chairs, stools and (oh yes) walls are decidedly more Circus Circus than Mandalay Bay. Photographs of characters, such as Sammy Davis, Jr. stare right back at you while you throw 'em back, adding to the lounge's theme. Regardless, the atmosphere lends itself to a smoky, Rat Pack vibe that's perfect for any happy hour (which, thank God, is daily from 4:30-6:30). Don't expect to find a jukebox. Rather, the bartender will willingly take your suggestions, ranging from Frank Sinatra and Billy Joel, to '90s pop.
Needless to say, this is not a place to plan a first date ... or a two-year anniversary, for that matter. The menu is simple, offering not-so-glamorous options, such as jalapeno poppers and mozzarella sticks. For happy hour, though, the place is perfect. Inexpensive draft beers, darts and good music make the bar an ideal place to unwind at the end of the week ... or any given Tuesday for that matter.
