If you did not get your fill of lucky charms and beer on St. Patty's Day, you should head down to McGillin's Olde Ale House for more Irish fun and drink specials to boot.
McGillin's is a cozy pub tucked away in a narrow alley just east of Rittenhouse Square. The Center City location draws an eclectic crowd; young professionals drop by for drinks after work, while students settle around long tables for the evening. Families occasionally bring kids for burgers as well.
The bar hasn't changed locations since it was founded in 1860 at 1310 Drury Street. Rickety wooden tables, faded posters and hanging antique instruments give the place a vintage feel it undoubtedly deserves.
The staff is friendly and quick, and there is a good selection of beers on tap, including McGillin's own Real Ale and Lager. Drinks are very reasonably priced, but there are also different specials every day except Friday. These range from $1 pints to $2.49 margaritas.
McGillin's extensive food menu offers the usual pub fare, including burgers, pizza and salads. In addition, the menu boasts more unique items like "McGillin's Special," a sandwich that claims to be the "forerunner of all specials," and "Ivy's Three Three's," which turns out to be nine shrimp cooked three different ways. The pub also sponsors food specials, including $5 steaks to 20 cent wings.
Both the food and drink specials run all night, so you can enjoy happy hour every hour. McGillin's also hosts a live DJ on Friday evenings from 5 p.m.-9:20 p.m. and karaoke on Wednesdays and Fridays after 9 p.m.. It's the perfect place to rock out with your shamrock out.
