Review: Shields – Grizzly Bear

After three superb studio productions, the expectations for Grizzly Bear’s newest album were high. Regardless, the release of “Shields” on September 18th validated the band’s permanence in the indie rock scene as the expectations were greatly surpassed. “Shields” features a refreshing and diverse compilation of the band’s new instrumental exploration. With pop hints in “Yet Again” and a more tough rock feel in “Sleeping Ute,” Brooklyn–bred Grizzly Bear proved its instrumental competence and diversity more than ever before. Grizzly Bear’s characteristic ethereal vibe featuring harmonic voices, riveting drumbeats and folk acoustics could not be missing from “Shields.” Fans will undoubtedly appreciate this production as a newfound favorite. The refreshingly experimental notes in “Shields” will help the band gain new attention and avid listeners. Don’t miss “Speak in Rounds” and “A Simple Answer,” or the whole album in its harmonious entirety.
