Like a Virgin
We know it’s scary, and you don’t need to do anything you aren’t ready to do. But you will have to order food at some point. And we’re here to walk you through.
Bui’s: The first time you go to Bui’s, you will not understand what the guy behind the counter is saying. At all. You may not even be able to identify your sandwich when it’s repeated back to you, but keep it together. Remember that the man with the memorable voice is standing in a hot truck with a hot stove cooking you a sandwich that will fix the twelve shots you had last night. So give him a break. Sandwiches, especially sandwiches this good, warrant respect. Actually, people in general warrant respect, but let’s start with this. Order: Sausage, egg, and cheese with Bui’s sauce.
Banana Leaf: This will probably be your first BYO. While everyone and their mother will order pad thai, you’d do better to wash your Franzia down with something slightly more unusual. The crunchy roti canal is a good appetizer to share (the sauce is addictive). Order the pineapple fried rice (it comes served inside a pineapple) to be the envy of all your friends. Ed note: Make sure you actually eat what you order because downing boxed wine on an empty stomach is never a good idea.
