Tune Up
The 8 songs we'll be playing on UCity's Pianos this week
The University City Public Piano Project (aka Heart & Soul) launched last night. 8 spots on or near campus. 8 pianos decorated by local artists. 8 opportunities to put Adrian Brody to shame.
1. 40th & Locust: “She’s Losing It” by Belle & Sebastian
Dedicate this tale of stale coffee and instability to your morning stumble out of Saxby’s.
2. 32nd & Powelton: “Pay Your Rates” by The Fall
Incite nearby summer subletters to revolt by banging out this rant against paying the man.
3. 33rd & Market: “Us” by Regina Spektor
If you’ve ever wanted to know what it’s like to go to Drexel, play this song. Pretend you’re the statue next to Drexel’s of mascot Mario the Dragon.
4. 43rd & Baltimore: “Great Expectations” by Gaslight Anthem
Pay tribute to another statue (Clark Park’s Charles Dickens bust) with this track that shares its title with one of the author’s greatest novels.
5. 39th & Walnut: “Shiver” by Coldplay
The Capogiro clientele knows you’re people-watching. Admit it with this number.
6. 37th & Market: “Why Does the Sun Shine?” by They Might Be Giants
Start a Science Center singalong in honor of the sun’s anatomy.
7. 30th & Market: “Blue Railroad Train” by Doc Watson
Show the Porch (30th Street Station’s outdoor seating area) how much you love riding Amtrak with this cut from a recently departed country guitar giant.
8. 36th & Walnut: “You Never Give Me Your Money” by The Beatles
“Out of college/money spent/See no future/Pay no rent”: Belt it before you bursar.
