The best spots to do it al fresco, outside of Rittenhouse
West Philadelphia: Gold Standard Café
BYO vodka (or champagne if you’re soft) and get a pitcher of fresh-squeezed OJ. Brunch on the patio runs 9:30 to 2 on Saturdays and Sundays. Keep an eye out for specials and trust the potato cakes ($14 with salmon, $10 as buckwheat pancakes).
48th and Baltimore Streets
Bella Vista: Fitzwater Café
When we tweeted Fitzwater’s Creme Brulee French Toast ($10) as the best we’d ever had two Sundays ago, we meant it, and we’re a savory kind of folk. Get there early if you want to be outdoors — Fitzwater fills up fast, particularly on weekend mornings. Breakfast through 2 pm.
7th and Fitzwater Streets
Olde Kensington: Taco Riendo
If you haven’t been past Fishtown, now is the time. Take SEPTA to Girard and it’s a 10 minute walk to this neighborhood Mexican restaurant, where you’ll get Chilaquiles and an agua fresca for less than ten bucks. Order inside, take it out. Tip: the cactus sounds cool, but it’s canned.
5th and Thompson Streets
Northern Liberties: One Shot Coffee
2nd and George Streets
Head here for Saturday/Sunday boozy brunches — outside or in One Shot’s adorable upstairs. Pair BYO liquor with weekly mixers served in mason jars ($5) plus one of the shop’s signature tarts or scones. If you’re on the hungrier side, opt for a sandwich (they’ll recommend the Jail Breaker [$8.99]). Added bonus? Stumptown coffee.
